Signs Your Ignition Needs Attention
- The key won't turn, or only turns after jiggling it.
- The key is stuck and won't come out of the ignition.
- A key broke off inside the cylinder.
- The ignition feels loose or turns without much resistance.
- The steering wheel is locked and the key won't release it — try gently turning the wheel while turning the key before you call.
Repair or Replace?
Not every stuck ignition needs a new part. Sometimes the key is the worn part, and a new key cut to the factory code solves it. Sometimes the cylinder can be cleaned and its wafers replaced. When the cylinder is too worn or damaged, we replace it and, whenever possible, code it to your existing keys.
If your key has a transponder chip, we program any new key to the car with professional diagnostic equipment, so it starts as well as turns.
